It is also possible to leave a bathroom floor uncovered (if you have floorboards) This gives the most authentic look in a period style bathroom and can prove to be quite cheap . They are also relatively warm underfoot - but there are a few things to take into consideration. The downsides are: the boards will need to be thoroughly sanded before sealing; they will need to be sealed or varnished; they can let draughts through; they can be slippery when wet; spilled water can leak down to the ceiling below; they require maintenance to keep them looking good.
