 Bathroom Decoration

Choosing the right bathroom floor coverings and deciding how you are going to decorate the walls of your bathroom will make more of a difference to your bathroom's appearance than your choice of a new bathroom suite, so it is important to get it right.

With this in mind you need to carefully consider which decoration products best suit your bathroom - and your budget!.

Bathroom decoration involves making several decisions as to which products to use on the walls, floors and ceilings and where to use them. For example you might well decide to use ceramic wall tiles in a shower area or above a bath but opt for a painted plaster finish in the rest of the room. This might be due to keeping the cost to a minimum or purely one of personal taste. The flooring will tend to be all of one type but this does not have to be the case. Ceramic floor tiles, vinyl flooring or carpet are the most popular choices. Artex or plastered ceilings are by far the most common finish but there are alternatives as laid out in our bathroom ceiling section. Sometimes the structure of the building will dictate the choice of decoration products, for example wooden floors cannot have ceramic tiles fitted without special boarding fitted otherwise the tiles can work loose or grout can crack due to slight movement and the different expansion rates of timber and ceramics.

There are also several products that have grown in popularity in recent years. Laminate flooring has seen a huge surge in sales; waterproof wall panelling has established a foot-hold in the UK after years of successful use on the continent; non-slip vinyl flooring for bathrooms is also a popular choice especially if installing a wet room.
